50th Anniversary of Transatlantic Very Long Baseline Interferometry

April 5, 2018
50 years of VLBI

This week we mark 50 years since the first transatlantic very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) experiment. In April 1968, a historic event took place involving MIT Haystack Observatory in Westford, Massachusetts, and its counterpart at Onsala Space Observatory in Onsala, Sweden: the first transatlantic geodetic very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations. Read more about the history of VLBI experiments, of which EHT is a part, here: http://news.mit.edu/2018/celebrating-50-years-transatlantic-geodetic-radio-science-0405
